What counselling is not!

Counselling is not about giving advice or opinions, nor is it just a chat with a friend. I help young people understand themselves better and find their own solutions to resolve or cope with their situation.

Where will sessions take place?

The sessions take place in my therapy studio, there is a side gate with a Ring doorbell. I will come to the side gate, and you can access the studio from here.

How accessible is your office?

The studio is accessible for wheelchairs, I would need to know in advance so I can accommodate accordingly.

What should I expect?

The first time we meet will be either in the counselling studio or online depending on your preference. We will have a 50-minute session looking at what you want to achieve from the counselling sessions so we can work towards that goal. I will collect background information and then go through the difficulties your young person is struggling with and the ways in which I can support. It also gives you the opportunity to ask the questions that are going to help you to decide if I am the person that you want to work with your child/ young person, but if I am not able to meet the young persons needs, I will do my best to recommend suitable alternatives.

Thereafter, we agree a suitable time and day, ideally the same each week as it helps build the therapeutic alliance, I will draw up a contract for us all to sign - this is a minimum of 6 weeks but can be longer if required. The aim is to review progress every six weeks. I will then work with the young person, in an integrative, person centred way, that suits their personal needs and concerns, underpinned by neuroscience.

What if I am late or miss an appointment?

I keep our agreed time clear for your young person but will not be able to continue the session beyond that time. Please be aware that there is a 48-hour cancellation policy, and the full fee is payable for any sessions cancelled during that time period. Cancellation with more than 48 hours notice will not result in any fee being incurred; if you wish, your fee can be transferred to your next session or where possible, I will attempt to reschedule your session to another time slot within the same week.

There is no fee for prearranged holidays. I know life is busy and professional commitments and personal responsibilities can mean it is not always possible to attend a regular appointment slot. I will always try to accommodate your needs as best as I can, so please do get in touch to discuss your individual requirements.
